What is Hernia In children
Hernia is an excrescence of a part of an organ or
tissue or structure, through the membrane or through a weak part
of a muscular tissue. Hernia can be divided into three parts.
Hernial sac, orifice and the content of hernail sac . This disease
can attack anybody from any age group and that is why children can
also become the victim of this disease.
“Umbilical hernias” is the common types of hernias that attack a
child. A weak sidewall of a pneumatic tire or a weak abdominal
wall can be the reason behind the occurrence of this disease. It
has been observed that one out of fifty boys becomes prey of this
disease. Girls are not generally susceptible to this disease.
Causes of Hernia In Children
Weakness in the tissue or muscles is one of the prime causes of
this disease. This weakness allows internal organs and more
particularly intestines to bulge out. Hernias are generally
developed in the area of abdomen and in that case abdominal organs
i.e. adipose tissues begin to bulge outward.
Congenital faults can lead to this disease. If the inguinal canal
is not closed properly after the birth of an infant, this disease
can make that baby an easy prey of this disease. Heredity is
another factor that can cause this disease. “Umbilical hernias”
passes from one generation to another generation.
Hernia Symptoms In Children
The symptoms of Hernia in children are diverse. Generally, a
visible protuberance or inflammation is one of the prominent signs
of hernia. In the case of adults, inflammation emerges
sporadically but in the case of children symptom is less
remitting. Children who are suffering from “umbilical hernias”
often encounter the inflammation symptom.
Though hernia is not painful but if the content of hernail sac
finds no way to bulge out, it may cause extreme pain. The
occurrence of pain is sporadic but if the content of hernail sac
find no way and remain stuck there permanently, the pain is
increased and it may become constant. Sometimes, it may harm
testis or intestines. If this thing happens, children may start
vomiting and a feeling of uneasiness can emerge. This is one of
the conspicuous symptoms of this disease.
Coughing, sneezing, crying can exacerbate the symptoms of hernia.
Malfunction of some organs due to constant pressure of the content
of hernail sac, is another major complication which can be
associated with this ailment.
Treatment for Hernia In Children
If a child is suffering from this disease, generally practitioners
suggest a child to cough, cry so that the protuberance becomes
more obvious. This generally helps a practitioner to locate
hernia. “Umbilical hernias” which is a common form of Hernia in
children, usually doesn’t require any medical treatment. With the
development of abdomen and muscles, a child recuperates from this
disease.
Organ dysfunction syndrome and gangrene are some of the
complications that may occur if a hernia is not treated
accordingly. Any types of hernia can be repaired through surgical
operation and it does not take too long time to recover after a
surgical operation. If it is not a complicated issue, hernia can
be treated by rectifying weakness in muscle tissue.
Now with the development in surgical science, a synthetic
substance is applied on weakened tissue to stop the problem of
over stretching. This treatment helps the patient to recover
within a short span of time. Apart from that, this treatment
ensures that one has the lowest chance of the reoccurrence of
hernia. Some surgical complications may bother a patient but these
complications can be redressed very easily. Some external devices
have been contrived that help a patient to recover from hernia.
