Composition:
Each 2ml ampoule contains a 2ml solution of gentamicin sulphate
equivalent to 80 mg gentamicin base with preservatives.
Indications:
Bacteraemia, Septicaemia, post operative infections,
peritonitis, severe burns & associated infection, Meningitis,
Pneumonia, Osteomyelitis, severe neonatal infections (neonatal
sepsis), otitis, cerebral ventriculitis, prophylaxis & treatment
of endocarditis due to streptococci & urinary tract infection.
Synergistic action when combined with metronidazole or clindamycin
for mixed anaerobic & aerobic infections, (Separate injections
should be used and not to be mixed).
Synergistic action when combined with Ampicillin or Benzyl
penicillin for Enterococci and streptococcal infections. (Separate
injections should be administered & not to be mixed).
Contraindications:
Pregnancy,the dose should be reduced in impaired renal
function & in odpatients, Gentamicin is excreted by simple
glomerular filteration and dosage frequency may be predicted by
assessing creatinine clearance. With Gentamicin the vestibular
mechanism may be affected when serum level of 10 ug/ml is
exceeded.
Pracautions:
It does not require refrigerated conditions. The following
should not be mixed with GENTAMICIN INJ:Penicillin, Cephalosporin,
Erythromycin, Heparin, sodium bicarbonate.
Dosage And Administration:
GENTAMICIN INJ. Can be administered intramuscularly or
intravenously. The under-mentioned dosage is suggested.
Adults:
60kg & above=80mg 8 hourly Less than 60kg=60mg 8 hourly
Children: Up to 12years 6mg/kg in 24 hours in 3 equally divided
doses
In infants up to 6 weeks=equally divided doses of 3 mg per kg 12
hourly
