Each Kit contains
Composition
1 cap of Rifampicin..........................................................100
mg
1 Tab of Pyrazinamide.....................................................300
mg
1 Tab of INH.....................................................................50
mg
Indications
Rifampicin, Ethambutol, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide and Streptomycin
are used in medication and management of Tuberculosis.
Description
Rifampicin inhibits DNA-dependent RNA polymerase in bacterial
cells by binding its beta subunit, thus preventing transcription
of messenger RNA (mRNA) and subsequent translation to proteins.
Pyrazinamide is a prodrug that stops the growth of Mycobacterium
tuberculosis. M. tuberculosis has the enzyme pyrazinamidase which
is only active at acidic pH. Pyrazinamidase converts pyrazinamide
to the active form, pyrazinoic acid. Pyrazinoic acid inhibits the
enzyme fatty acid synthetase I, which is required by the bacterium
to synthesise fatty acids.
INH is thought to work through its effects on lipids (fats) and
DNA within the tuberculosis bacterium.
Dosage
Children : 10-15 mg /kg body wt. daily as single dose.
