Composition
Each tablet contains
Norfloxacin IP 400 mg and
Tinidazole IP 600 mg

Description

Cinzole ® is a synthetic broad spectrum antibacterial agent belonging to the fluoroquinolone group. It exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting the Asubunit of DNA gyrase, an essential enzyme involved in DNA replication. Tinidazole is a nitroimidazole which has antimicrobial action against microaerophilic protozoa Giardia lamblia, Entamoeba histolytica and Trichomonas vaginalis and against obligate anaerobic bacteria. It acts by damage of DNA strands or inhibition of their synthesis.

Indications
Cinzole ® isCinzole ® is Treatment of diarrhoea and dysentery of amoebic, bacterial or mixed origins.

Dosage
The dosage is one tablet twice daily for 5 days.

If creatinine clearance is between 10 and 30 ml/minute the dose should be reduced to one tablet daily.


Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to quinolone group of compounds or nitroimidazoles.

Warnings and Precautions
Alcohol: Metronidazole is reported to have a disulfiramlike interaction with alcohol causing nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps and flushing. Patients taking tinidazole should, therefore, avoid alcohol.
Probenecid: When coadministered with norfloxacin, probenecid diminishes the urinary excretion of norfloxacin.
Nitrofurantoin: Nitrofurantoin antagonizes the antibacterial effect of norfloxacin.
Theophylline: Plasma levels of theophylline have been reported to be elevated when norfloxacin is given concurrently.
Oral anticoagulants: Norfloxacin, like other quinolones may increase effects of oral anticoagulants.
Multivitamins: Multivitamins and preparations containing iron or zinc, antacids or sucralfate should not be taken concomitantly or within two hours after norfloxacin.

PAEDIATRIC USE
Fluoroquinolones have been shown to cause degenerative changes (arthropathy) in weight bearing joints of young animals. Cinzole ® is not indicated for use in children.

Side Effects
Norfloxacin: Some cases of nausea, headache, dizziness, fatigue, rash, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, somnolence, depression, insomnia, constipation, flatulence and heartburn have been reported. Less frequent reactions include dry mouth, diarrhoea, fever, vomiting and erythema.
Tinidazole: Metallic taste, nausea, vomiting, headache, urticaria, hypersensitivity and early leucopenia
