Use
diaros-m – M ® is an oral medication used to control blood sugar
levels in people with type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes.
It contains two drugs commonly used to lower blood sugar,
rosiglitazone and metformin. diaros-m – M ® replaces the need to
take these two drugs separately. It is also used when treatment
with metformin hydrochloride alone doesn't work. diaros-m – M ®
is not, however, meant to take the place of weight loss or diet
and exercise. You should continue to follow the regimen your
doctor recommends.
Blood sugar levels are ordinarily controlled by the body's natural
supply of insulin, which helps sugar move out of the bloodstream
and into the cells to be used for energy. People who have type 2
diabetes do not make enough insulin or do not respond normally to
the insulin their bodies make, causing a buildup of unused sugar
in the bloodstream. diaros-m – M ® helps remedy this problem in two
ways: by decreasing your body's production of sugar and making
your body more sensitive to its own insulin supply. diaros-m – M ®
does not increase the body's production of insulin.
Dosage
Do not take more or less of Rosiglitazone maleate, Metformin
hydrochloride than directed by your doctor. diaros-m – M ® should be
taken in divided doses with meals to reduce the possibility of
nausea or diarrhea, especially during the first few weeks of
therapy. diaros-m – M ® may start to work within the first week or
two after you begin taking it, but it can take up to 3 months
before the drug's full effects are seen. Be sure to check your
blood sugar as your doctor recommends.
If you miss a dose
Take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is
almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return
to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
Storage instructions
Store at room temperature in a tight, light-resistant container.
Side Effects
Nausea, stomach upset, diarrhea and metallic taste may occur at
the beginning of treatment as your body adjusts to the medication.
If stomach symptoms return later (after you are on the same dose
for several days or more), tell your doctor immediately. Returning
stomach symptoms may be due to lactic acidosis.
Headache, joint pain, weight gain, loss of appetite, cough and
fever may also occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen,
notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Promptly talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the benefits
and possible risks of this medication, even if you have been
taking it for awhile, especially if you have heart problems. Do
not stop taking it unless directed to do so.
This medication should not be used if you have certain medical
conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or
pharmacist if you have: kidney disease, history of liver disease,
conditions that may cause a low oxygen blood level or poor
circulation (e.g., severe congestive heart failure, recent heart
attack, recent stroke), lack of body fluids (dehydration), serious
infection, metabolic acidosis (e.g., diabetic ketoacidosis), type
1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes).
